THE Southern District Racing Association (SDRA) premiership race will be the furthest thing from Wagga trainer Trevor Sutherland’s mind when he takes nine horses to Albury on Thursday.
Sutherland takes a three-win lead into the Albury race meeting, where he rates The Boondock Saint and Sir Ottavio as his best chances.
“It’s going to be a very interesting day, I think The Boondock Saint will run a big race,” Sutherland said.
“He’s been terribly unlucky at his last two starts, he loves Albury, loves it a bit damp, he loves Bryan (Murphy) and Bryan loves him.
“I think Sir Ottavio will run really, really, well too.
“I think he’s as good now, if not better than what I had him for the Guineas Prelude. He’s just been in a growing stage.”
As for the premiership, Sutherland, a two-time winner, said he could not care less.
In an ominous sign for those chasing through, he does believe he can train 10 winners before the season is out.
“I haven’t even chased it this year, this has been a rebuilding year for me,” Sutherland said.
