MICHAEL Clayton couldn’t beat local runners to claim Wagga’s biggest race on May 22, but his greyhounds had too much clash for Riverina runners at Bulli on Friday night.
The Sutton Forrest trainer dominated the Wollongong Tourism Wagga Final (472m) with Here’s Archi and Playmaster running one-two.
Heats for series were run on Wagga Cup night with the final run on the coast and Clayton’s pair were the only non-Riverina trained greyhounds in the race, but managed to rise to the top.
Here’s Archi smashed his rivals, winning by six lengths and jumping to the front.
Playmaster fought off the rest of the pack to defeat Susan Burgess’ Win Some Cash by a half length.
It will be a big weekend for greyhound racing in Wagga with the club hosting two meetings.
The club will run a meeting at its now normal timeslot of Friday night, before a twilight meeting on Sunday.
Nominations for Sunday’s meeting close on Wednesday morning.
