FOUR local girls who represented ACT/NSW at a national AFL carnival have gladly accepted a $500 grant from the Wagga Carlton Supporters Group.
Melinda Hyland who accompanied Sarah Lloyd, Ellie Dalgarno-Fixter, Jamila Piercy and Elisa Pevereto to the carnival said they were amazed by the altruism of the supporters group.
“It was particularly generous because we don’t really have any connection with them,” Hyland said.
Given the alternative to contribute financially to national organisation aims the group opts to support aspiring athletes close to home.
Hyland said the representative opportunity only came to fruition through the generous support of benefactors such as the Wagga Carlton Supporters Group and Australian Sports Commission grants.
“It was quite an expensive carnival,” she said.
