Kristie Charlton is proof that with great risk comes great rewards.
Miss Charlton took a chance when she established the Hair Makeup Styling Academy (HMSA) in Wagga only eight months ago.
It is slightly different from a normal salon in that it places a focus on customers after they leave the salon, not just while they are in it.
Miss Charlton offers training programs for residents to learn how to maintain their hairstyles after they leave the salon and how to correctly apply makeup for their age and skin type.
She also offers training to industry professionals.
“Instead of just a normal salon, it’s a training salon,” she said.
“I want to recreate them feeling good by being able to do their own hair and makeup.
“I also want to encourage young girls to feel good about themselves and not pretend to be a Kardashian.”
HMSA was recently recognised as the top ranked training salon in NSW based on public vote.
The award was judged using customer ratings by more than 14,300 users of the Mylocalsalon website.
HMSA received an average rating of 5.0 out of 5.0.
“I feel very lucky and blessed that it’s the feedback I’m getting,” Miss Charlton said.
