PATRICK Pengelly trawled a popular Wagga Facebook trading site looking for victims and ended up robbing two people wanting to sell mobile telephones.
The 41-year-old was jailed in Wagga District Court this week after pleading guilty in the Local Court to assault with intent to rob and two counts of stealing from the person.
He arranged to meet his first victim at Ashmont in July last year. After snatching a phone he said: “Thanks bud, but you’re not getting any money”.
Five days later he threatened another man with a knife and stole a phone from the victim, who was able to escape uninjured in a car.
Pengelly was jailed for a minimum 11 months backdated to November 5 for assault with intent to rob.
He was given nine-month fixed terms from October 5 for the other two crimes.
