JUNEE faced its first real trial of the Football Wagga competition as the top-ranking team were downed by Henwood Park 3-1 at Rawlings Park on Sunday.
Henwood Park forward Jake Ploenges contributed with a phenomenal work rate and the first goal of the match.
Junee leveled the score before half time leaving Henwood Park hungry for more.
“We came out and moved the ball around really well,” Henwood Park coach Kyle Doswell.
Henwood Park midfielder James Murray positioned himself perfectly during a corner kick to score a header.
Then Ploenges sealed the score with another goal.
Henwood Park outclassed Junee, retaining possession of the ball and creating opportunities upfront inspiring some untoward tactics from Junee according to Doswell.
“They resorted to playing dirty, we kept out of it,” he said.
A number of Junee players were given a warning however Doswell believes they should have penalised more severely.
“When people are going in trying to hurt people he’s [the referee] got to send them off,” Doswell said.
Moving forward Doswell expects an improvement from the Henwood Park squad as they confront Young next Sunday.
“I’d like to see more composure on the ball when we have it,” Doswell said.
