THE NRL dream of Jarryd Haynes has left NSW’s fullback position wide open and City’s Matt Moylan wants to make his own.
Moylan is one of the front runners, alongside James Dugan and Brett Stewart, for the position and is looking to use Sunday’s City-Country game as a launching pad for further rep honours.
While the pressure of a potential Origin berth could way down players, the 23-year-old is looking to keep positive.
“There is probably a bit more pressure, but I’m not looking at it as that,” Moylan said.
“I think there is an opportunity there if I go out there and play good enough footy to warrant selection.
“That’s just what I’m trying to do.”
The Penrith fullback said he’s relishing the fact his name continues to be tossed up in the origin mix.
Moylan was thrown into last year’s City-Country game, but is more confident coming into Sunday.
“Last year it was a bit of a surprise to be picked, I definitely didn’t expect to be picked, but coming in this year I’m a lot more confident with a fair few more first grade games under my belt,” he said.
“It’s another step up from a normal club game and a opportunity for not only myself but a few more players to put their name in the ring for Origin selection.”
