Had to go on duty at 4.50a.m. this morning until seven. However the 3rd relieved us at 6a.m. The news came through last night that the Minerva had sank a Turkish torpedo boat ten hours stem away. I bought two tins of Woodbines today and two cakes tobacco. Rifle inspection this morning. Leave has been granted to D Coy to go ashore until 6p.m. for the purpose of washing their clothes. News came through tonight that the British had defeated 12,000 Turks in Mesopotamia. Further particulars of the sinking of the Turkish torpedo boat by the Minvera states that the torpedo boat attacked a N. Zealand transport and about 100 troops jumped overboard and were drowned. The transport escaped.
