THE hockey season has only just started but already some of Wagga’s most talented prospects are scoring goals.
Dylan Martin, 17, and Isobel Cowell, 16, are both off to the under 18 national championships as part of the NSW state teams.
Martin has been a regular for NSW duties in recent years and will add to his state honours when he travels to Melbourne for the championships.
Cowell will enter the women’s championships in Adelaide as a bottom aged player in the NSW Blues team.
Wagga Hockey Association representative coordinator Brydie Wellham said both teenagers deserve the honour.
“Both have been training throughout the off season with their support groups,” Wellham said.
“Dylan is continuing his great form in his development.
“Isobel has implemented an effective and dedicated off season with selection a great credit to all the hard work.”
Cowell attended the under 15 national championships last year and has continued her development with selection in one of two NSW teams that will compete at the event.
Martin represented NSW at the championships last year, and also helped NSW to success at the national indoor championships in Brisbane.
Both Wagga players play through the midifeld.
They are also Wagga High School students.
Also at the championships will be Wellham and Zac Tinning.
They will be at the championships as part of the Hockey Australia umpiring panels.
Both the men’s and women’s national championships run from April 8 through to April 16.
Meantime, Wagga Hockey Association will enjoy a general bye this week due to the Easter long weekend.
It resumes with round three on April 11-12.
