SIX teams from Group Nine and Group 20 will vie for supremacy in the fledgling West Wyalong Knockout Leaguetag competition on Saturday.
Group Nine will be represented by perennial grand finalists Temora, along with Tumbarumba and Kangaroos, while two West Wyalong squads and Leeton will fly the flag for Group 20.
Coordinator Paul Quade is confident the calibre of the nominated teams will ensure the competition provides plenty of entertainment.
“Both West Wyalong teams should be strong. The number two team is an invitational side,” Quade said.
“From what I hear coming out of Wagga, Roos should have a pretty good team too. Temora were runners-up last year, and they always perform well, and Leeton won the plate last year.”
The Dragons will meet the Greens in the opening clash of the competition.
“It will be a cracker,” Quade said.
Quade hopes the competition will further boost the “rising profile” of leaguetag and renew interest in the knockout.
“I’m confident we will have more teams next year,” he said.
Teams will play two, 20 minutes games for a shot at the cup – and $1500 in prizemoney.
Gates to Ron Crowe Oval will open at 12 noon, in time for the first leaguetag fixture at 1pm.
The cup decider will take place at 8.15pm, while two teams will play-off for the plate at 4pm.
