Wagga City v Lake Albert
JOSH Thompson starred for Wagga City and put his team well on the way to wrapping up its eighth win of the season.
Thompson took five wickets at McPherson Oval on Saturday as the Cats ran through Lake Albert.
The Bulls were bowled out for 109 with Thompson involved in four of the top five batsmen's dismissals.
Thompson was involved in the run out of Isaac Cooper before removed top scorer Matthew Tom (23), Thomas Blanch (18) and Kurt Robertson (19).
Captain Jon Nicoll was very impressive with Thompson's performance.
"He bowled really well and slowed it down and didn't bowl as fast, which was really good," Nicoll said.
"He took five and a good run out so he had a good day.
"He gave more flight and wasn't as quick through the air.
"It's something he's been working on for the past couple of weeks and got the rewards."
The Cats have only lost once, to Kooringal Colts in round six, and are in good touch heading into the finals series.
Taking on Lake Albert in the last of the regular season matches, the Cats only trail by 55 runs when the match resumes on Saturday.
"To be one for 40 odd is a really good start," Nicoll said.
"Coetzer and Footman got us off to a really good start, which was the main thing and we will look to capitalise next week."
Nicoll described the wicket as a good batting deck and is looking to cash in when the match resumes.
"It's important for the guys to spend some time in the middle and it's a really good batting wicket so there are no excuses for us next week," Nicoll said.
"The outfield is long, but it is a good wicket and we are going to look to capitalise."
