More than 4600 people attended day one on Sunday, with crowd of about 1000 on days two and three including plenty of visitors from out of town.
Griffith resident Michael McWhirter made the journey over to Wagga on Monday to catch a couple of days of the action while visiting his dad, Duncan, who is staying in Wagga for a few weeks.
"I enjoy my cricket so I've come down to have a look," Michael said.
His dad said it was great top-class cricket had been brought to Wagga.
"It's fantastic, a real opportunity to bring cricket to the country," Duncan said.
"It would be good if they could make it a regular occurrence."
Elsewhere in the ground, people had travelled from right across the region, with some like Cobram resident Brett Andrew watching Sheffield Shield cricket for the first time.
"We love the cricket," he said.
The NSW team brought 27 playing and support staff to Wagga for the game against Victoria, which they wrapped up with a 156-run win on Tuesday.
Riverina-raised NSW spinner Nathan Lyon said the crowd the players were treated to in Wagga far exceeded what they were used to getting back at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
"It was fantastic to have 4000 people come out on Sunday for day one of a Shield game," he said.
"We don't get that playing in Sydney and I'm sure the Bushrangers don't get that in Melbourne."
Hotels in Wagga reported a modest increase in bookings as a result of the cricket.
The Townhouse Hotel, located just across the road from Robertson Oval, reported an extra 10 rooms booked out by spectators, while NSW Cricket staff also stayed at the venue.
"We have quite a lot of people who have come, booked in (Monday) morning and gone straight to the cricket," receptionist Kelly McNair said.
"We're 100 per cent full for the next three nights."
