HENSCHKE Primary School has come out on top after a busy day of Australian football at the Paul Kelly Cup yesterday.
Some 34 teams, both boys and girls, hit Jubilee Park for the annual Paul Kelly Cup competition where the Wagga schools came out on top.
Henschke will meet Kooringal Public School in the boy's regional final of the Paul Kelly Cup on Thursday night after they both enjoyed victories in the semi-finals yesterday afternoon.
Henschke scored a 14-point win over Mater Dei Primary School, while Kooringal edged out Holbrook Public School by four points to move through to the final at Robertson Oval.
Henschke also took out the girl's final with a six-point victory over Sacred Heart Primary School.
Southern NSW AFL development manager Marc Geppert was impressed with the standard of football on display from the primary school kids.
"Overall, the standard was pretty good," Geppert said.
"The two semi-finals were absolute crackers.
"Quite a few of the boys had played rep footy this week at the PSSA Championships and came back to play.
"The girls were a bit scary to watch at times but it was good to see them ripping in and having a go."
Schools travelled from Holbrook, Coolamon and Junee to take part in the day with Wagga-based schools.
Some 22 boys teams and 12 girls teams took part.
Henschke's girls team will now progress through to the Southern NSW finals where it will take on winners of the MIA, Western Riverina and Albury regions.
The boys final will be played at 5.30pm on Thursday at Robertson Oval as a curtain raiser to the final of the Carroll Cup.
