11.30am THE SCRUB fire burning out of control near Tumut has burnt out more than 500 hectares.
The fire is in the vicinity of Gocup Rd and the Tumut River, Gocup.
Crews, aided by water-bombing aircraft, are battling the fire this morning.
Gocup Road remains closed between Tumut and Gundagai.
A watch and act alert remains in place.
1.20am: RESIDENTS have been told to leave the area if the path to Tumbarumba is clear.
"People in the area around Little Billabong Road, Tumbarumba Road in the Carabost area, and Carabost Road, should leave now towards Tumbarumba. You are in danger. Do not delay," an RFS alert issued at 1.11am declared.
1am: AN EMERGENCY warning has been issued for a large, fast-moving fire burning near Humula.
People around Little Billabong Road, Tumbarumba Road in the Carabost area and Carabost Road, are being told to leave now towards Tumbarumba.
Emergency alert telephone warning messages are being sent to homes in the area.
The Rural Fire Service (RFS) says the fire is currently more than 2500 hectares in size and is out of control, with firefighters working to protect properties where conditions are safe to do so.
There are also unconfirmed reports of properties that have been destroyed.
"The fire is now burning in a south easterly direction," the latest update, issued a short time ago, said.
"It is burning through pine plantation and is burning quickly and erratically."
The fire has jumped Little Billabong Road and is uncontained on its northerly front.

Council activated its local emergency operations centre earlier tonight and a spokeswoman has told The Daily Advertiser a number of staff and equipment have been tasked to the fight.
Two graders and a fuel trailer have been mobilised to Shockeroo Road, while another two fuel trailers have been sent to the Humula Fire Station.
Eleven council staff are providing assistance, including with traffic control.
11.20pm: A LARGE bushfire continues to burn erratically in the Murraguldrie State Forest, seven kilometres south-west of Humula.
A Watch and Act alert remains in place for properties between the intersection of Little Billabong Road and Tumbarumba Road and Tumbarumba Rd and Carabost Humula Road with homes there likely to come under threat.
The fire has jumped Little Billabong Road and is moving mainly in a south-westerly direction.
It is also burning in an easterly direction in parts while its northern front remains uncontained.
Rural Fire Service crews are currently concentrating on protecting a number of rural properties in the area.
State Emergency Service crews are on the ground in Humula drawing up contigency plans to evacuate affected residents to Tarcutta if required.

A number of roads have been closed in the area impacted by the 2400-hectare bushfire.
A separate bushfire north of Tumut along Gocup Road, which has burnt more than 250 hectares, is burning in a north-easterly direction towards the Tumut River.

Firefighters are concerned for a number of rural properties along Gocup and Quidong roads and a Watch and Act alert is in place for the area.

Gocup Road is closed between Tumut and Gundagai, with diversions in place via the Snowy Mountains Highway.
9.45pm:
8.50pm: THE Minnimbah bushfire, burning south-west of Humula, has grown to more than 2400 hectares in size with firefighters concerned for the village ahead of an expected wind change.
A Watch and Act alert remains in place for the fire, which is burning rapidly in a pine plantation and being aided by strong winds.
The Rural Fire Service advised a short time ago that the blaze was burning less than two hours away from properties.
6.30pm: Another Watch and Act alert has been issued for a fire burning near Gocup Road on "Halveway Hill" north-west of Tumut.
The scrub fire has already burned 20 hectares.
6.10pm: A WATCH and act alert has been issued for a a forest fire burning in the Murraguldrie state forest south-east of Kyeamba.
Another fire has also broken out on Lower Tarcutta Road near Tarcutta.
The Hume Highway has reopened.
6pm: THE Rural Fire Service (RFS) says a number of fires between Wagga and Tumut are believed to have been sparked by lightning.
5.30pm: FIREFIGHTERS are responding to a forest fire burning in the Murraguldrie state forest near Kyeamba.
Numerous roads are being closed in the area.
According to the Transport Management Centre, the Hume Highway has been closed in both directions at Tumbarumba Road with detours in place via Wagga on the Sturt and Olympic highways.
Little Billabong Road and Tumbarumba Road could also close.
The Rural Fire Service lists the fire as out of control.
It has burned about one hectare.
Motorists are being urged to avoid the area.
