But that won’t stop you voting for him as Men’s Health magazine’s 2012 Man of the Year.
The former Wagga boy has made a splash with his down-to-earth nature and washboard abs as one of the top six finalists for the magazine’s most coveted titles.
Encouraged to enter by his wife, Emma, Mr Mullings beat hundreds of other entrants to vie for the title, which he says is a great opportunity to set a healthy example for his two children.
Since leaving Wagga for the bright lights of Sydney, Mr Mullings has modelled for designers including sleepwear giant Peter Alexander, but said this competition is about more than just looking good.
“The mantra of Men’s Health magazine is not about having a male model look, but to be a model male,” Mr Mullings said.
“Kids, they watch everything you do. I wanted to be a good example for them (my children Hosannah and Jeremiah). I personally believe when you’re healthy you feel better and have more energy to get through the day,” he said.
“I’d like to encourage guys, to show them even if you have kids or work full-time or have other commitments, you can still be healthy.”
Mr Mullings was hand-picked as one of the final 12, but to make it to the final six he was put through his paces with a cooking, dancing and fitness challenge.
But now it’s up to the general public to have their say on who should be the 2012 title holder.
Mr Mullings was born in Brisbane, but spent the first eight years of his life growing up in Jamaica and Miami before moving to Wagga.
He attended Kooringal High School where he was vice-captain before he headed off to Sydney for university and remains there today as a producer and host of a music television program.
He returns to Wagga throughout the year to visit with his parents, who still call Wagga home.
The winner of the 2012 Man of the Year will be announced in the October issue of the magazine, which goes on sale on September 10.
