Staff and volunteers at the Dubbo Aussie Helpers outpost have been given a leg up in their annual Christmas appeal, with a handy assist from Real Pet Food Company, who've lent their time and products to the effort. Depot manager Katie O'Brien and CEO Natasha Kocks were joined by a group of hard-working volunteers from both the local area and Real Pet Food Company as they packed Christmas hampers for farmers in need on Wednesday. READ ALSO: "I think we spent all day yesterday packing hampers for our yearly Christmas drive," Ms O'Brien said. "Real Pet Food have been great, they've supplied us with pet food for the hampers and they've come onboard as sponsors of the drive, they loaned us ten of their workers to help us pack 500 hampers and they've been a really great team to work with." The pet food won't go unnoticed in the farming communities that Aussie Helpers will be donating the hampers to, either. "It's something that will be enormous for our farmers and their working dogs, they're the real unsung labourers on the farm, they do so much work around the farm, so to be able to help them and give them something in the hampers as well is enormous," Ms O'Brien said. Other inclusions will be ingredients for classic holiday meals, as well as essentials. "We've got Christmas puddings and cakes, custard, lollies, milk, tea and coffee, a lot of very useful and welcome things to lighten the load and just make things so much easier for the farmers," Ms O'Brien said. "There's a lot of lovely goodies in the hampers, it was a very full on day packing them all in there, even with our twenty volunteers." The hampers will be travelling all over the region, as well as being distributed at the depot's Christmas party on December 3. "Harvest is amazing, it's great to see the grain depots filling up, I'm in so much awe when I drive past, but the money is still tight, everyone is still coming from behind," Ms O'Brien said.
