Thomas played with the Goannas before moving to Sydney after the 2010 season but is reportedly moving back to Wagga.
Saints coach Nathan Dowdle met with Thomas on Sunday night but is unsure what his plans for 2013 are.
Dowdle confirmed the Saints will put an offer on the table for the small defender and onballer.
“He has played the last two years in Sydney but he said he’s looking to move back here,” Dowdle said.
“I think he’s talking to Mango but I wouldn’t mind having a chat to him.
“He was pretty good when he was here, he played first grade at Mango and he can play back pocket and switch onball.
“I’ll have to talk to the club and see what we can offer him, then hopefully arrange a meeting with him and see what he thinks.”
If Thomas joins North Wagga he will be the club’s second good off-season signing following Mark Adams joining the Saints as assistant coach.
Dowdle said he is not chasing any other big names but has backed 22-year-old defender Travis Fraser to enjoy a better 2013 season.
Fraser joined his old school mate at North Wagga last year but only played nine games in first grade due to concussion and a dislocated finger. Fraser was a standout Wagga junior before moving to Queensland to play football but his career was put on hold when he broke his back playing under 18s.
“Travis didn’t play for three years because of his back and he struggled a bit with injury and things last year,” Dowdle said.
“If he can get a big pre-season under his belt and get fit he should be right.
“Hopefully he can play a full season for us next year.”
Meanwhile Northern Jets has confirmed the signature of former Turvey Park player John Hoey.
Hoey stepped down as Bulldogs coach at the end of last season and will join Dane Keenes, Declan O’Rourke and Aaron Hart among the new faces at the Jets next year.
