A CHEEKY sign subtly parked on the roadside at Hammond Avenue this week has not only caught the attention of stunned motorists. Wagga City Council has pounced on the signage, which advertises the services of Wagga escort agency Centrefolds XXX and bears the image of a scantily clad woman, issuing the owner a $1500 fine. The unauthorised sign, mounted on a trailer which bears Victorian number plates, also features the name, address, website and phone number for Centrefolds. When questioned whether the sign was legal, a spokesperson for council simply stated "no".He said a fine had already been sent to the trailer's owner in conjunction with an order of removal."The owner of the trailer will be issued with a development without consent notice - it carries a $1500 infringement penalty."While council had not received any official complaints from the community, the spokesman said council was aware of the sign's presence.Wagga businessman Ian Conway-Powles is well versed in the advertising and display standards acceptable for the adult industry.Having battled for the right to place a display in the window of his adult store Simply Risque for several months, Mr Conway-Powles was stunned by the actions of Centrefolds and said he could not endorse their advertising methods."We would frown upon it," he said."Being in the adult industry we take a very responsible approach to advertising, I would be a lot more discreet."The Daily Advertiser attempted to contact the owner of Centrefolds XXX, however the calls were left unanswered.
