A MAJOR upgrade of the Ausply plywood manufacturing plant at Forest Hill has taken another step forward with the lodgement of a development application with Wagga City Council.Big River Timbers (BRT), which owns Ausply, intends to double current operations over time and significantly increase the current workforce of about 70.The company is making a multi-million dollar investment in the plant, said BRT’s general manager of manufacturing, Leigh Morley.BRT bought the Ausply business 12 months ago.“Before the purchase, BRT was a significant customer of Ausply and distributed the locally made plywood through sales outlets in Sydney and Melbourne,” Mr Morley said.“In seeking further company growth it was an obvious choice to purchase the Ausply facility with a view to upgrade and expand the operation.”BRT is a privately owned company that has a 110-year history in the timber industry. BRT already runs two existing manufacturing sites in Grafton, on the north coast of NSW.
