The trials for the Southern NSW contingent of the squad were held in Wagga over the weekend with the two teams to compete at the state trials announced yesterday.Teenage senior footballers such as Jordan Foster, Jacob Powell and Matt Lewington were among some of the talent selected in the Southern NSW Stingray and Rebels teams. The two teams will travel to Coffs Harbour for the under 18 zone state trials to be held from January 22 to 24, where the final NSW ACT Rams squad will be selected.More than 80 of the region’s best players travelled to Wagga at the weekend and Lenon was impressed with what he saw.“We were pretty happy, there is a fair bit of depth there,” Lenon said.“Some of the players there go pretty good and the likes of Luke Breust (Temora), Tim Ruffles (Narrandera) and Jordan Foster (MCUE) should have big years ahead.“The conditions didn’t suit a player like Jordan Foster at the weekend so I expect him to perform very well when he gets up to Coffs Harbour.“There were a lot of other young local guys who performed well and with some of them, now having the experience of last year under their belt, I expect them to go to Coffs Harbour and perform at a very high level.”Deniliquin’s Garry Parsons is set to coach the Rebels team, while former Turvey Park player and current Wagga Tigers chairman of selectors Troy Maiden will coach the Stingrays. The two teams will come together early in the New Year at Narrandera for a final training session on January 13.NSW ACT Under 18 squadWagga: Tom Bassett, Joseph Cunnington, Jordan Foster, Luke Gestier, David Johnson, Kade Klemke, Matthew Lewington, Jacob Powell, Kerrod Roberts, Matthew ThomasMIA: Luke Breust, Patrick Chaffer, Simon Collis, Chase Grintell, Len Haddrill, Nathan Hunter, James Lawton, Josh Lucas, Ben Potroz, Brent Rose, Tim Ruffles, Daniel RyallAlbury: Julian Bourchier, Sam Field, Joshua Hamilton, Kristopher Holman, Liam Johnson, Jesse Johnston, Dane Keenes, Damien McKendrick, Dylan McNeil, Tim Mitchell-Hill, Ben Schulz, Jack Stean, Lachlan Trethowan.Western Riverina: Brodie A’Vard, Joshua Bryce, Shayne Gervasi, Mitchell Ross, Liam Walker, Joshua Bryce.Broken Hill: Ben Camilleri, Blake Clare, Mitchell Clisby, Wulu Hall, Anthony Henderson, Jordan Johns, Dalton Reick.
