Bettermatch has won six of his seven starts, but hasn’t raced since winning a NSW Breeders Challenge heat in May 2015.
Two throat operations and an attempt to stand at stud later the five-year-old will line up in a Menangle Country Series heat.
Leeton trainer Col Thomas is more hopeful than anything else.
“He’s going alright but we don’t know really,” Thomas said. “We’ve only trialled his once and he didn’t do anything flash but he is going alright.”
Another concern for Thomas is drawing barrier seven.
“He couldn’t have a worse draw, but he looks good and we are just hoping,” he said.
Bettermatch clocked 1:53.6 when sitting to race without cover to win the Sapling Stakes at Menangle before being plagued with wind problems.
Thomas also lines up the in-form Camroller, who has won his last two starts, but doesn’t expect barrier one will suit.
“Camroller is going alright but it is a bad draw for him,” he said.
“He will probably get crossed by the thing of David Eurell’s (Corbie Abbey) and it stops and we will probably be in behind him.
“We just have to get off the fence as he is working alright but would rather see him out of two or three.”
Thomas also has Run Business Run engaged.
