The fire ban affects the council areas of Wagga, Junee, Coolamon, Greater Hume, Albury and Lockhart.
By 10.30am on Sunday, the mercury had climbed to 31.6 degrees, as it heads towards the predicted top of 35 degrees.
A weather warning had earlier been issued as high winds were expected across the region.

The hot, windy weather, according to the Bureau of Meterology, is coming in ahead of ahead of a trough and associated cold front.
With the arrival of the cold front will be a drop in temperatures, with the predicted maximum for Monday a much more mild 27 degrees.
