The upgrades allow for major works to be completed at both The Rock and Lockhart swimming pools over the traditional “off season” during winter.

And it is anticipated that the vast portion of planned upgrades could be ready for the summer traffic later this year when the pools open again. 

Lockhart Shire Council mayor Rodger Schirmer said he was thrilled with the news and he confirmed plans featuring the works which needed to be done had already been drawn up.

He said it was a great way of upgrading faculties within the shire for the residents who live there and also having excellent draw cards for visitors to the region too.

Cr Schirmer said the importance of having a great swimming pool was something the community valued. From the Lockhart Swimming Club, through to swimming lessons and those who use the pool for sport and leisure he said the use of the facilities was invaluable. 

Members of the Lockhart Swimming Club took time out from school on Friday to meet at the town’s swimming pool and learn about what the announcement would mean to them. 

Lockhart Shire Council general manager said the upgrades would ensure the community had access to safe and modern swimming facilities well in to the future. 

Member for Wagga Daryl Maguire said the funding was part of the NSW Government’s $200 million Stronger Country Communities Fund.

“The Stronger Country Communities fund is a once-in-a-generation investment and I’m excited for the people of regional NSW to start seeing these projects pop up all over the place,” he said. 

“This is fantastic news for The Rock and Lockhart,” Mr Maguire said. 

He said the upgrades would see new pool shells with wet decks, all abilities access rams, new modern and energy efficient pool filtration systems, a new barbecue, playground and shade areas as well as modern amenities buildings.
