A testament to all things geek and gamer, GAMMA.CON was founded in 2013 but has rapidly expanded outside its ACT stronghold.
More than 5000 people attended last year’s Canberra installment, prompting cause for a second location.
With Wagga’s GAMMA.CON debut only days away, vice-conveynor Matt Owen is confident south-west NSW can host a successful event.
“We started up in Canberra because we thought the city was missing out on big city events like ComiCon and Supernova,” he said.
“It gone really well the past few years and when we thought about expanding regionally, Wagga was an obvious choice.”

Mr Owen has been racing back and forth from Canberra to Wagga for the past three weeks making final preparations.
“It’s been pretty hectic but we’ve made contact with plenty of local gamers and pop-culture enthusiasts in town,” he said.
“Judging by the amount of people we’ve spoken with and judging by the early feedback we’ve received, I’d say we’ll do really well.”
With a swathe of attractions, games, and cosplay opportunities, GAMMA.CON has piqued the interest of Wagga’s gaming community.
George Crocker, 22, is excited to see what’s on offer.
“There’ll be a few of us from Infinity Knight Games who will be running stalls and having a look around,” he said.
“There’s a new Magic: The Gathering series coming out for the 25th anniversary so that’ll be cool.”
However, Mr Crocker said he would withhold his verdict until after the convention.
“I hope it goes well but we’ll just have to wait and see,” he said.
