Wagga’s mayor has lauded the city’s ongoing Community Strategy Plan 2040 a success, citing an increase in major sporting events and a $13 million funding boost for the region.
It comes after the CSP celebrated its first ‘birthday’ on Friday with a free community event at Wollundry Lagoon.
More than 100 people, including primarily children, turned out for sweet treats, library reading sessions and a jumping castle.
Cr Greg Conkey says they’re the exact demographic who will reap the rewards of the CSP.
“We’re looking at planning the city over the next 40 years ... and all the kids will be the ones to benefit,” he said.
Corporate strategy coordinator Serena Wallace made reference to new events at Borambola Sport and Recreation Centre, along with the Women’s BBL double header, as indicative of the strategy’s success.
“We’re celebrating the achievements of the past 12 months, so why not do a party and celebrate?” she said.
