Thousands of passengers were facing major delays after issues at the T1 international and T2 domestic terminal hampered security checks and delayed flights across the airport early Friday morning.
Security was reopened about 6.45am, and by 7.30am, about a third of the thousands of passengers in the domestic terminal had made it through screening, Fairfax Media is reporting.
By 8am, the backlog was substantially reduced and flight schedules were being returned to normal.
REX’s ZL 659 flight was due to take off at 6.40am, but was delayed until 7.20am.
Qantas’s flight QF2221 took off just seven minutes late at 8.12am.
It was due to land at 9.15am, about 10 minutes later than scheduled.
