Coote, who enjoyed a big finish to the 2014 season when Thunder thrashed Southcity in the grand final, is set to replace Andrew Smith at hooker.
He is returning from a knee injury.
“With ‘Smithy’ pursuing his boxing, we needed some cover at hooker,” club president Rick O’Connell said.
“He’s played well for us before.
“It’s good to have him back at the club.”
Coote is a chance of lining-up for Thunder in the West Belconnen Warriors Nines tournament in Canberra on Friday.
Albury take on Goulburn Workers Bulldogs at 9pm, followed by Queanbeyan and Gungahlin on Saturday.
Thunder’s playing list has undergone huge change over the off-season with coach Adrian Purtell, Tumbarumba’s Robbie Byatt and Kane Hammond, Englishman Brad Hill, Bombala’s Adam Rodwell and Condobolin’s Keanau Wighton joining the club.
The Border side will also play Queanbeyan Roos and Wagga Kangaroos in trial matches.
“With so many new faces, we wanted to play an extra trial game,” Purtell said.
