The revamped rubbish service, which has already come under fire for its fortnightly collection of general waste, is scheduled to begin on April 2.
On Monday, Wagga City Council announced they had not yet secured a processor for the food organics and garden organics waste.
Tenders for the acceptance and processing of FOGO material were open from January 13 to February 12, however, the two tenders submitted were deemed “unacceptable”.
Council commercial operations director Caroline Angel would not elaborate on why the terms were “unacceptable”, but said the decision to withhold a tender was not made lightly.
“We put a number of options forward in the tender so we could test the market and ensure we get the best value for the ratepayers’ dollar,” she said.
“I can’t tell you why we haven’t accepted those tenders but our intention is to have a FOGO processor finalised as soon as possible.
Ms Angel said alternatives to landfill for collected waste were being pursued in the meantime and urged residents to remain positive.
“Sometimes you stall before you start going forward,” she said.
“Even if a FOGO processor isn’t finalised by April 2, it’s important the community sort their waste correctly as the contamination rate will be closely monitored when the processor is in place.”
While the FOGO processor is still to be determined, there will be no change to the roll out of the new kerbside waste service and how residents will sort their rubbish.
JJ Richards and Sons Pty Ltd will be emptying all three bins from April 2, with general waste to be disposed of in landfill and recycling to be processed by Kurrajong Recyclers.
Parts of Kooringal, Turvey Park, East Wagga Wagga, Wagga Wagga, Oura and Mangoplah are scheduled to receive new bins this week.
