The Victorian MP on Thursday publicly called for the embattled Barnaby Joyce to step aside as the scandals around Mr Joyce’s now-pregnant former staffer and jobs created for her in the offices of two of his colleagues continue to plague the government.
Member for Riverina Michael McCormack is tipped as one of the top contenders for the next leader, but he too is shying away from public comment.
Responding to inquiries by The Daily Advertiser on Friday, Mr Broad was standing firm on his refusal to name anyone as a successor to Mr Joyce.
He was also ruling out further public comment.
Nationals MPs are scheduled to attend a party room meeting on Monday, but senators are unlikely to be attending due to commitments in Senate estimates hearings.
Mr Broad said on Thursday he would be putting forward a motion to this meeting, asking the Mr Joyce stand aside.
Mr McCormack this week denied meeting with MPs Mr Broad and Keith Pitt to discuss the issue.
