At 10am on Thurday, March 1, students at 48 schools within the boundaries of the Murrumbidgee Local Health District are taking part in the Big Vegie Crunch, in celebration of Vegetable Week, which runs from February 26 to March 2.
Together, these schools will be aiming to break the previous record of 29,067 students crunching vegetables simultaneously, with the wider goal of educating children about the benefits of a healthy diet.
“It is recommended children between four and 12 years eat around five serves of vegies per day,” Brendan Pearson, the MLHD health promotion co-ordinator said.
“These healthy eating habits - will last a lifetime. Vegetable Week, the Big Vegie Crunch and other activities like these are vital to encourage increased fruit and veg intake both at school and in the home.”
