The NSW Government has committed $170 million to the stage 3 redevelopment, according to a Health Infrastructure spokesperson.
A contract for the enabling works – or site preparation – was awarded to Richard Crookes Construction late in 2017.
Stage three, the final part of the massive developed project, is due to be finished by 2020.
The long-awaited redevelopment, which included the construction of a new hospital building and the demolition of the old one, began in October 2011 when houses in Yabtree Street were knocked over to make way for the new facilities.
Patients and staff were moved into the new main hospital building – then known as Wagga Rural Referral Hospital – in January 2016.
This latest move has see the clinic services moved into temporary units near the mental health building.
Pathology collection, the ambulatory clinics and allied health departments have been moved into the temporary units, as the demolition of more old buildings is expected to be carried out in the coming months.
The nurse practitioners, gynaecology, tuberculosis and electroencephalography (EEG) facilities have also been moved.
“We are working hard to ensure patient services continue as normally as possible,” director Helen Cooper said.
“Moving the clinics also means phone numbers have changed.
“The new number to phone for any general information about the clinics is the main clinic reception on 5943 1245,” Ms Cooper said.
“Patients are asked to go to the new clinic reception area first and they will be assisted from there.”
Administrators are also currently counting the cost of replacing signage at the hospital after announcing earlier this month that the facility’s name was going back from Wagga Rural Referral to the old Wagga Base, after thousands of people backed the change in a community survey.
There is no set time frame for completing the change.
