The Blues were bowled out for 69 at Harris Park on Saturday with Hillier claiming five wickets.
Hillier had the Blues on the ropes early at 3-7 and the Colts hardly let them into the contest.
Captain Sam Whitfield was thrilled with their performance with the ball.
“It was an impressive performance from our bowlers, especially Max Hillier,” Whitfield said.
“He was definitely a pick of our bowlers.”
Hillier finished with 5-23 off 17 overs, including five maidens, while Jayden Beattie stepped up from second grade to claim the important wicket of Jeremy Rowe (11).
Colts looked like they were on their way towards a big total before losing 4-10 just as they reached the Blues total.
However Zac Hines was able to steady things and will resume on 25 as his team looks at the chance of scoring valuable second innings points.
Kooringal will resume at 6-125 and Whitfield is pleased with how they are placed.
“We’ve definitely put ourselves in a good position,” he said.
“We’re 50-off runs in front now and provided the boys can try and get a few more runs early next week I think we will definitely be looking to at least have a go at those second innings points.”
Colts had struggled to find their post-Christmas form, after losses to Lake Albert and Wagga RSL, but have the chance to go back into top spot if they can complete their dominant effort.
