Michelle Rossiter, the event coordinator of Tumut Turf Club, was pleased with the high turnout.
“The weather has been on our side compared to last year where we had to postpone. It was great, we had a really great turnout,” she said.
Ms Rossiter said that the cup and other racing events, which have been around for a long time, are important in uniting the community.
“They are very important, we’re doing quite a bit of work all the time down there so it’s fairly important that we get people through the gate to keep the work going as well, for the future generations,” she said.
Ms Rossiter also expressed gratitude to all the local businesses that donated prizes and all the volunteers who pitched in.
Tumut’s first meeting of the new season is inOctober and Ms Rossiter has put out a call for new volunteers, saying any help would be greatly appreciated.
