For the first four innings, the game was keenly contested with the Warriors scoring once in the very first innings and then in the top of the fourth.
Neither side made a significant error in this period of the game but the power hitting of the Warriors suggested that the shackles would soon be broken.
Such was the case, when hits to Kira Hallam, Sam O’Neill, Jess Grant, Kristy Tennison contributed to a healthy yield of four runs.
At 6-0, the Warriors fell short by one run to have the mercy rule applied.
Moreover, Saints ensured that wouldn’t happen when they scored their first runs for the game. A hit to deep short-stop, saw the speedster, Jess Wild, make it safely to first base. Then hits to Gemma McGlynn, and Desi Calder saw Wild and McGlynn both cross the plate.
The Warriors added another single in their sixth innings, before, again, shutting out Saints.
Power batting was to the fore again as the Warriors finished with a flurry of outfield hits taking their score on to 11.
Jayla Nix, Kristy Tennison, Montana and Jess Grant stood out in offence.
With 10 runs needed in their final innings the Saints didn’t manage to score, despite hits from the McGlynn sisters, Gemma and Tessa, which left the Warriors 11-2 victors.
South Wagga Warriors play Turvey Park next week in the penultimate round, while the Saints have the bye.
