The premiers have limited their losses since last season but with key defender Geoff Spriggs and centre-half-forward Jordan Matthews gone, Hoey’s a valuable addition.
“He’s a good player, he works hard, he’s got a big motor,” Marrar coach Shane Lenon said.
“He’s played some pretty good footy as a centre-half-forward or centre-half-back, and he can play anywhere down the spine really.
“We haven’t done a lot of recruiting because we’ve got four or five young blokes with that experience from last year and we’ve got high hopes for them.
“But once we lost (potential recruit) Jack Brooks, there was a need for another player, and this bloke fits the bill perfectly.”
Hoey said he’s excited about the move to Marrar and hopes reuniting with his old Lockhart coach will help him rediscover his best football.
“Shane is one of the best coaches I’ve been involved with, he knows how to get the best out of each individual,” Hoey said.
“I still think I’ve got something to offer but I was well down on where I wanted to be last year… . I’ve got a lot of work to do, to even up my performances, and Shane’s the man to get that out of me.”
Hoey has played in the Farrer League before, having a season with the Northern Jets in 2013. The Bombers have also signed Matt Hort, who was at Turvey Park before a season off, as well as Zach Walgers (MCUE).
