Member for Murray Austin Evans has announced Magistrate Joy Boulos will be the one to take on the role.
The last appointed magistrate on the MIA circuit was Magistrate Kate Thompson, who ceased sitting at the end of 2016.
Throughout 2017, the circuit was filled by magistrates on a week to week basis.
Mr Evans said it is important the region continues to have a full time magistrate sitting in the community to ensure justice is delivered efficiently.
Magistrate Boulos joined the bench in May last year starting her judicial career at the Sydney Downing Centre before transferring to Burwood.
For the last eight years at Legal Aid she was a senior managing solicitor, overseeing complex criminal matters and a team of 20 solicitors.
In 2000, Ms Boulos represented the family of Peter Dalamangas at an inquest into the death of the 23-year-old following his restraint by private security officers in Sydney. Her work at the inquest was recognised at the inaugural Law Society of NSW Excellence in Government Awards.
Ms Boulos began her career in 1994 in Legal Aid's civil litigation unit, where she worked for six years, specialising in consumer protection law, victims' compensation, housing and tenancy and human rights. She holds Bachelors of Laws and Economics from Macquarie University.
Magistrate Alexander Mijovich is allocated to sit on the Griffith circuit from January 2018 to the end of March 2018.
