Handle The Truth cruised to a three-length victory on debut in the XXXX Gold 2YO Maiden Plate (1000m) for Canberra’s Keith Dryden and training partner Scott Collings.
The Star Witness gelding was backed from $3.00 into $1.65 favouritism and scored very impressively.
Jockey Mathew Cahill had a couple of looks over the shoulder and never really asked too much of Handle The Truth as he beat fellow Canberra two-year-old Freundin ($5.00) and Hard Core ($10.00).
Dryden hopes Handle The Truth can measure up in the $275,000 Black Opal Stakes (1200m) at Canberra on March 11.
“He’ll go to the preview and if he goes well in that, I think he would want to win, he’ll go to the Black Opal,” Dryden said.
“He’s shown us plenty...he’s going to be a nice horse.”
