Ever thought you have what it takes to fly a plane, perform delicate surgery on a patient or are you a great debater?

Many careers take further education compulsory schooling to gain the qualifications necessary to perform specific tasks on the job.

If you wish to have a career as a doctor or lawyer, you’ll need to attend university and undertake a Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) which takes four to six years to complete. After that you can decide on a medical specialty and this can take an additional three to five years to complete.

A great debater may best be suited for a career as a lawyer. The qualifications required are a Bachelor of Law which can take three to four years of  university study. To be a professional lawyer, you also need to do practical legal training in a firm.

Imagine being in charge of a plane. A private pilot licence takes 60-70 hours of flight time and a commercial pilot licence takes 150 hours of flight time. The time to obtain the licence depends on how frequently you commit to training and learning to fly. A pilot log book is completed to show your actual flight hours much like learning to drive a car.
