The Strikers lost the first of the top of the table matches in Wagga by 37 runs. The Thunder’s 4-148 was too much as Adelaide were dismissed in their final over for 111.

Schutt, an Australian fast bowler, believes the Thunder’s total was about par for the course.

“I think so. It was a lightning fast field on a flat deck and with the start that they got, I thought we pegged them back pretty nicely,” Schutt said.

“One hundred and fifty is about par in the girls’ game now so I thought we could chase that down. I thought we bowled pretty well to restrict them to 148.

“The game kind of ebbed and flowed but unfortunately we couldn’t get through with it with the bat.”

The Strikers lost a couple of wickets early in the chase and were always playing catch up from there.

Bridget Patterson top scored with 30 off 20 balls, while Amanda Wellington fired 16 late in the innings.

Tahlia McGrath was the pick of the Strikers bowlers with 2-22 from four overs, while Sophie Devine also picked up a couple of wickets.

Schutt had nothing but praise for the Robertson Oval pitch and facilities.

“I had good expectations coming out here, I know my father checked out the place on a road trip once and he said it was good and I believed him. Any field where I can slide, I absolutely love it so I was just trying to get down as much as I could today.”

Schutt said it was important the Strikers move on quickly from the loss.

“I think it’s about brushing off the loss today, to be honest,” she said.

“You take every game as it comes but I think we’re a good side and that is a momentum kicker but at the same time, we played some good cricket out there so hopefully we can do it again tomorrow.”
