The mercury hit 41.1 at 4.30pm today in Wagga but thankfully, fire fighters weren’t kept too busy.
Fire and Rescue and the RFS were called to a small fire in a Cox Avenue, Forest Hill home around 4pm on Saturday.
Fire and Rescue reported the fire was put out by the homeowners themselves before crews arrived.
At around 8.30am Albury RFS attended a one hectare grass fire which started after 4.15am on Coach Road, Culcairn. About 50 round bales also caught alight with the cause of the blaze yet unknown.
Andrew Gray of Albury Fire Control Centre said crews had the blaze under control in about four hours, but firefighters were still on ground at 5.45pm monitoring the site.
With both Saturday and Sunday rated as high fire danger in the Eastern Riverina, NSW RFS Operational Officer Bradley Stewart said knowing what zone you’re in or travelling into is vital.
“Knowing the potential risk gives residents and visitors the opportunity to prepare for the onset of fire,” Mr Stewart said.
“Before embarking on a trip, travellers should check the Fire Danger Rating on the NSW RFS website for the area they are in, or heading to.
“Fires can be incredibly dangerous for anyone not prepared or unaware of their surroundings, such as people camping, away on holidays or travelling in unfamiliar areas.”
The Bureau of Meteorology forecast a hot and mostly sunny Sunday with a top of 42 degrees.
