From January 1, unvaccinated children cannot be enrolled in daycare facilities or preschools.
However, parents who need an immunisation history statement from the Australian Immunisation Register to provide as part of their child’s enrolment process may not realise that it can take up to 28 days to come.
The statements can be downloaded via the Medicare website, but parents who need to order them for delivery via post are being warned they could be in for a wait of several weeks.
A spokesperson for the Australia Immunisation Register said parents should check with their daycare provider to confirm details.
The “no jab, no play” laws have been beefed up with the removal of the so-called conscientious objector exemptions. Directors who fail to comply and those who falsify documents can be fined up to $5500.
