Daniel Bruce Boyton, 24, of Ashmont, made the choice via his solicitor in Wagga Local Court on Wednesday.
Boyton is alleged to have stabbed a man on May 29.
He is charged with causing wounding/grievous bodily harm with intent to murder and a back-up charge of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
The case has been adjourned to the Wagga District Court on February 16.
