While some customers were under the impression the flight was a direct route, as per usual, a Rex spokesperson said the stopover was planned and disclosed to customers prior to booking.
"The combination of Rex’s Melbourne to Wagga Wagga and Melbourne to Albury service on a Saturday morning are temporary," she said.
"The change occurs from late December until the end of January, which is to match the number of flights with the reduced passengers travelling at this time of year.
"The change to the flight schedule was implemented back in June 2017, and the stop in Albury is transparently disclosed as part of the booking process."
The Rex spokeswoman said the change in scheduling was necessary if the airline was to continue servicing Wagga throughout this quiet period.
"The combination of the Wagga Wagga and Albury service avoids the service being cancelled altogether," she said.
"The combined service on a Saturday continues until Saturday 27th January, with the direct services recommencing from Saturday 3rd February."
