Gamers, local artists and cosplay fanatics from across the region are invited to converge for Gamma.con Wagga on Saturday, March 17 at Kyeamba Smith Hall.
Traditionally held in Canberra, the convention can draw a crowd of more than 4000 residents, donning game-play costumes and wielding the latest weaponry from alternate worlds.
CSU’s gaming club founder Sam Robinson, who recently returned from one of the biggest conventions in the country, said the Wagga event had a lot of potential but it would be a roll of the dice.
“We’re surprised but excited,” Mr Robinson said. “It’ll be good for local gamers and producers.”
Fellow university student Kathy Huang said residents usually had to migrate to capital cities to engage in niche-interest conventions such as this.
“I hope it becomes a regular thing,” Ms Huang said. “It’s a good way for people to come together and share an interest.”
Psychology student Michael Lennon said Wagga’s “geek community” was quite large.
“There’s enough of us here in Wagga to have a convention,” Mr Lennon said.
