Riverina gay and lesbian couples could exchange their vows from Tuesday, January 9 – exactly one month after the royal succession of the changed law.
It follows years of marriage-equality campaigns, months awaiting postal survey results, days of parliamentary sittings and hours of a seemingly-endless debate.
The long-awaited passing of the same-sex marriage laws took place in the House of Representatives last year and the legislation was officially altered on December 9, making Tuesday the first day for vows to be exchanged between husband and husband, wife and wife.
