The past three race meetings at Murrumbidgee Turf Club have been held on the inner Riverside track as $200,000 of renovations were conducted on the course proper.
Drainage works to the outside six metres of the entire track were completed, courtesy of Racing NSW funding. It completes the drainage works at the track after the first stage was carried out in 2014.
Sandgrooving was also conducted to rejuvenate the existing drainage.
MTC track manager Mark Hart said the works will make a big difference.
“It won’t weather proof it, but we’ll be able to get 30-40 millimetres in the winter time, and as long as we get 24 hours, we should race,” Hart said.
Hart said the track is in top condition for Friday’s return to racing.
“It will look a million dollars on Friday,” Hart said.
“It’s about 90-95 per cent. There’s a few little things that you won’t see, where all the traffic was out wide but it will look really good.
“Four horses have gone over it since last Thursday, Brad Clark and Tim Donnelly have both put horses over it and have been really happy. They have both come off and said it’s perfect.”
Seven millimetres of rain on Monday night have only helped the track ahead of Friday’s return.
