The Wagga Heat believe they have unearthed a genuine star in freshly-signed import Connell Crossland.

Standing at 6’7, the left-handed American swingman boasts eye-popping athleticism and the ability to play all five positions.

He can get the rim at will, hit the outside shot, facilitate when needed and hold his own on defence.

The Texas Christian University product is also expected by many within the Heat camp to contend for the Waratah League’s MVP trophy.

But despite all his natural ability, what really drew the club to Crossland was his desire to share the ball and make his teammates better.

“He’s a very unselfish player and that’s something we really wanted,” Heat senior representative director Darren Kuiper said.

“Having Matt Pebole’s unselfishness in that import spot last year really allowed everyone else to shine and we wanted to see that continue this year.”

Similarly excited is Heat captain Zac Maloney, who witnessed Crossland’s exploits when the pair were playing for their respective German squads late last year.

“It was his speed and athleticism which really stood out, throwing down massive dunks and that kind of thing” Maloney said.

“He looked like he could have scored every time he touched the ball if he wasn’t so focused on getting his teammates involved.

“He should easily be one of the best players in our league.”

The Heat are yet to confirm Crossland’s expected arrival date.
