When asked for an update on the talks, Wagga City Council general manager Peter Thompson said negotiations were ongoing, but the project had been shortlisted for additional government funding.
“Recently, council and the RIFL hub project were shortlisted for NSW Government Fixing Country Rail funding,” Mr Thompson said.
“Council and relevant parties are focused on meeting the requirements of this funding and submitting the final application in February 2018.
“Council is continuing negotiations with GWA.”
It comes after years of delays and false starts for the project. The first commercial partner, Patrick-Asciano, backed out of a $15 million deal and the second venture with rail infrastructure specialist Traxion fell over when that company went into voluntary administration in 2015.
Wagga City Council signed a framework agreement with GWA about the RIFL hub in April.
