Appeal coordinator Trevor Urquhart was left to bemoan weather factors and economic hardship after the December 4 appeal brought meagre returns.
“It was our worst appeal ever,” he said.
Two weeks on, the response has been heartening.
“It’s been very positive since December 4 and lots of people have been sending in items since the callout was made,” said Wagga Regional President Joanne Crawley.
“It’s been amazing to see such a good response – people are still leaving bags at churches and bringing bits and pieces in.”
Mr Urquhart was pleased with the turnaround but asked people to continue donating to the Christmas appeal.
“It’s been much better but we’re still after items,” he said.
“We still don’t have a lot of things like cordial.”
