With lights and sequins galore, there was plenty to get residents into the festive spirit.
While the performers stole the show – it was the magic in the children’s eyes that captured the heart of Wagga.
For Claire Szabo – who had just moved from Sydney with her husband and three-year-old – the Christmas Spectacular was a chance to make the most of what Wagga has to offer.
“We moved just over a week ago and decided to make the most of the free activities,” she said.
“We never had the opportunity or time to go to anything like this in Sydney but tonight we didn’t have to battle the traffic or a huge crowd.”
Ms Szabo said while all of the numbers were hits, Santa Claus Is Coming to Town was the family favourite.
The Szabo’s were just one of many families enjoying the spectacular, with a resounding cheer for Santa’s big arrival.
Kapooka army band leader, Major Lindsay Mee, said it was a lovely show in the name of a great cause, hosted by local charity Kurrajong.
“It was such a good cause and we can see a great benefit from the night,” Mr Mee said.
“We were left feeling good and there was a real high at the end of the night.”
Local performers, dance groups and choirs took to the stage for the event, now in its 37th year.
While Mr Mee estimated more than 3000 people crowded into the bowl, regardless of numbers, he said the event helped set the mood for Christmas.
“This was my second year and we’d love to be back next year,” he said.
“Everyone sung and danced so well.”
Mr Mee said the Mr Heat Miser, sung by Wagga radio host Witto, was a big crowd favourite.
